Thriving in a Chaotic Future

Futurist Jamais Cascio will help AFP frame the future, so we can be more future-ready and more able to make our preferred futures possible. Jamais will introduce the BANI Future: Brittle, Anxious, Nonlinear, Incomprehensible—and he will show us how to flip it positive by being Bendable, Attentive, Neuorflexible, and Interconnected. The future will be increasingly chaotic, but we can thrive if we frame the future accurately and spark better possibilities.

Derek Mulhern

Derek Mulhern is a Professional Certified Coach and Executive Director of the Cultivating Change Foundation, where he advances LGBTQ+ inclusion in food and agriculture. A former association executive, Derek brings deep expertise in board governance, strategy, and leadership. He has worked with boards across sectors to strengthen alignment, clarify roles, and drive mission-focused impact. Through Derek Mulhern Coaching, he partners with executives and boards to foster trust, accountability, and inclusive leadership. A Forty Under 40 honoree, he holds an Executive Leadership certificate from Cornell. As a gay man in agriculture, Derek leads with authenticity, equity, and people-centered strategy.
