LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Our goal is to develop fundraising professionals who can lead the sector and their respective organizations to increase philanthropic commitments for some of society’s most pressing needs.

  • Scholarships available to ICON, LEAD and other educational opportunities;
  • A Leadership Program - a three-tiered program launching in 2021 to build skilled fundraising leaders who accurately reflect the diversity of our communities.
  • AFP LEAD - a Foundation program that provides the skills to fundraising professionals to help them lead their nonprofit organizations and AFP chapters.

IDEA

The Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) Impact program is a phased, multi-year approach to create and implement initiatives focused on the needs of diverse communities:

  • Diversity Scholarships for fundraisers from diverse communities available to ICON and other programs.
  • A Mentoring Program to provide support and guidance to women in the profession and to help develop their leadership skills so that they grow and sustain the profession.

RESEARCH

Knowledge is power. and the Foundation is committed to conducting qualitative and quantitative research on the issues of highest concern to fundraising professionals and philanthropists.

  • The Fundraising Effectiveness Project is to help nonprofit organizations increase giving at a faster pace.
  • Research Grant -  up to $10,000 each year to individuals who wish to undertake research projects directly related to fundraising performance.
  • Research Prize - grant awarded to a book that contributes substantially to the knowledge and understanding of fundraising or philanthropic behavior.

ETHICS

The Foundation is committed to renewing public trust in nonprofit organizations through ethics training and resources, public awareness campaigns such as Ethics Awareness Month, and utilizing AFP’s Code of Ethical Standards.

  • Ethics Awareness Month is dedicated to helping fundraising professionals understand the Code of Ethics, grow ethical skills, and demonstrate their commitment to the highest ethical standards.
  • Endowed Ethics Funds - grants provided to further ethics work in fundraising.
