Scholarships are the backbone of the Foundation for Philanthropy’s mission. We provide hundreds of scholarships every year for fundraisers – both AFP members and non-members – to help them elevate their professional skills through education, networking, leadership development, and more. Our scholarships serve young professionals, those who self-identify as diverse, those new to the profession, and all fundraisers who need these resources and opportunities.

AFP Foundation Chamberlain Scholarship

  • Every AFP Chapter receives one (1) Chamberlain Scholarship.
  • The scholarship covers the recipient’s conference registration (minus a $10 processing fee) to the AFP International Conference on Fundraising (ICON).
  • This scholarship is only available to individuals who have never attended an AFP ICON before.
  • Each AFP Chapter administers the scholarship annually and develops their own criteria for awarding.

AFP Foundation Diverse Communities in Fundraising Scholarship

  • The AFP Diverse Communities Conference Scholarship Fund ensures that AFP programs are inclusive and supportive of diversity-related issues and concerns.
  • The fund provides financial support for activities that increase understanding and awareness of diversity issues within AFP.
  • The scholarship offers financial assistance for professional development for:
    •  AFP members who self-identify as coming from a diverse community
    • And/or who those who are employed by grassroots organizations that primarily serve diverse populations
  • AFP offers coverage of the full conference fee plus some travel support for each recipient.

AFP Foundation Collegiate Scholarships

  • The Foundation provides one (1) complimentary registration to each collegiate chapter for one member to attend AFP ICON and AFP LEAD
  • The scholarship covers the full registration fee for the event
  • There are available travel cost stipends in some cases, please contact Chapter Services for more information

AFP/Blackbaud Development Fund Diversity Scholarship

Through a partnership with Blackbaud, the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy offers scholarships covering the full conference registration fee for ICON and LEAD. Scholarships are valid only for the specific upcoming occurrence of each event and may not be deferred to future years.

  • Scholarship candidates must identify as a member of a marginalized community and have at least 1 year of experience as a fundraising professional.
  • Only those who have never attended AFP ICON or LEAD can apply. 
  • As a Blackbaud Diversity Scholar, you must consent to providing a testimonial to the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy about the impact of receiving the scholarship and agree that your name will be listed as a Blackbaud Scholar and shared with Blackbaud.
  • The scholarship provides complimentary AFP ICON or LEAD registration.

The application for the AFP LEAD 2026 Scholarship is open from June 1, 2026 - July 17, 2026 until 11:45 p.m. ET.
