National Philanthropy Day Highlight: Youth Philanthropist Gillian Saunders
Throughout the month of November, the Association of Fundraising Professionals will be highlighting honorees from National Philanthropy Day chapter events around the world, showcasing outstanding donors, volunteers, corporations, foundations and others who are being recognized for their commitment to change and philanthropy.
Today, we’re highlighting Gillian Saunders, nominated by Feed More and honored by the AFP Central Virginia Chapter with the 2019 Youth Philanthropy Award.
Feed More, a nonprofit organization that prepares and distributes food to 34 counties and cities in Central Virginia, nominated Gillian for her commitment and passion for their mission to feed those who need it most.
As a young girl, Gillian wanted to help others that didn’t have enough to eat. Starting out by selling cupcakes and donating the proceeds to Feed More, as well as asking relatives to donate canned goods instead of money or gifts on her birthday, Gillian has been dedicated to feeding those in need for more than a decade.
Last year, Gillian celebrated her 11th year with Feed More and has helped provide over 45,000 meals to hungry children, families and seniors in Central Virginia.
The AFP Central Virginia Chapter hosted its National Philanthropy Day event and honored Gillian on November 14, 2019. To learn more about the organization and Gillian, please click here.
