Canadians Well-Represented on the 2019 AFP Board 

In 2019, six Canadians will be part of a 24-member AFP Global Board of Directors, a newly stream-lined model that reflect a best practice approach to governance.

The voice of AFP Canada will be represented by:

• Leah Eustace, M.Phil, MInstF, CFRE, ACFRE – Vice Chair, Professional Advancement Division
• Luce Moreau, CFRE – Chapter Presidents Council Representative on the Board
• Pati Greenwood, CFRE – Board Member
• Darius Maze, CFRE – Board Member
• Paula Attfield – AFP Canada Board Chair, ex-officio
• Roger Ali, CFRE – AFP Foundation for Philanthropy – Canada Board Chair, ex-officio

Long-time AFP member Leah Eustace is ready for the new challenges and opportunities this role will bring. "It's a privilege to be taking on the role of vice chair, professional development, on the AFP Global Board. I'm looking forward to working with volunteers and staff on making our educational offerings as relevant, accessible and inclusive as possible."

The current AFP governance structure had been in place since 2006. During this time, AFP membership has grown, and the number of chapters has increased. The Young Professional and International memberships, including Strategic Alliance partners, have also grown significantly due to membership category changes over the past several years. 

A 2017 Governance Task Force (GTF) considered what AFP's leadership bodies should look like in the context of the new strategic plan and made changes that will contribute to advancing the vision and goals of the association. 

The GTF recommendations were to:

• downsize the board from 36 to 24, including the President & CEO as ex-officio with no vote;
• remove the District seats;
• reduce the Executive Committee to five members;
• include each division Vice Chair on the board, but not on executive committee;
• provide seats for the AFP Canada Foundation board chair, AFP Canada board chair, the US Foundation board chair, the Mexico Foundation representative, and the CPC member; and,
• establish ten at-large seats that will allow for a balance of geography, skills, abilities, attributes and other urgent priorities and key factors when developing proposed slates. 

These recommendations were approved by the AFP Board of Directors at its October 14, 2017 meeting.
