In Defence of Philanthropy A Special Presentation by Dr. Beth Breeze (Sponsored by MCR Canada)

Join us on Friday, July 22, from 1 - 2 p.m. EST for a special presentation by Dr. Beth Breeze about her award-winning book, In Defence of Philantropy. As the guest speaker at the 2022 Canadian Leadership Retreat, Dr. Breeze will share her thoughts on current critiques of philanthropy and how the charitable sector can respond.

Dr. Breeze is director of the Centre for Philanthropy at the University of Kent in the United Kingdom. She spent 15 years conducting research for her book, In Defence of Philanthropy, including more than 100 interviews with major donors which informed her writing. Through her book, she questions the rationale for disparaging philanthropic acts and argues that although it may be flawed, philanthropy is a sector to be championed so an abundance of important causes can flourish. We need to have a better understanding of, and take greater care of, both the askers and the givers if we want to have a thriving nonprofit sector.
