National Philanthropy Day Highlight: Outstanding Youth Nathan Manners
Throughout the month of November, the Association of Fundraising Professionals will be highlighting honorees from National Philanthropy Day chapter events around the world, showcasing outstanding donors, volunteers, corporations, foundations and others who are being recognized for their commitment to change and philanthropy.
Today, we’re highlight Nathan Manners, nominated by The Sunshine Foundation of Canada and honoured by the AFP Golden Horseshoe Chapter in Ontario as its 2019 Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy Awardee.
Living with cerebral palsy, Nathan wanted nothing more than to explore his community with his own bike. Needing an adaptive tandem bicycle that is often expensive, The Sunshine Foundation made his dream a reality, inspiring Nathan to pay it forward.
Nathan and his mother decided to host a garage sale as an enjoyable and easy fundraiser with proceeds benefiting the foundation. In 2016, “Nathan’s Garage Sale” was an officially established initiative, taking Nathan’s fundraising a step further, helping to support children across Canada who are living with severe physical disabilities or life-threatening illnesses.
