AFP DC, Washington DC Metro Area Chapter Event: Democratizing Philanthropy: Engaging Diverse Donors

April 11, 2024 | 8:30 - 10:00 a.m.

Please join us on April 11th for this in-person event.

Donor acquisition and stewardship continue to rank among the top two challenges facing many nonprofit institutions today. This paired with the great wealth transfer provides an opportunity for nonprofits to reevaluate their fundraising approaches and priorities with an eye towards inclusivity. Join this session dedicated to exploring strategies that empower institutions to raise significant funds while engaging diverse donors.

Participants will gain insights into how museums can create meaningful relationships with a wide spectrum of donors, ensuring financial support is representative and accessible.

Key Topics to be Covered:

  • Current philanthropic landscape
  • Trends for donors of color
  • A case study featuring the National Museum of African American History & Culture, focusing on innovative engagement, cultivation, and stewardship strategies

We envision the session beginning with a brief presentation on the current state of philanthropy, focused on the arts & cultural sector, and donor demographic trends in giving. The session will then follow a guided discussion, supported by a few slides that will include case study examples from NMAAHC woven throughout the presentation and discussion. The session will end with time for an open Q&A with attendees.

Speakers:
Allyson Randolph, Senior Vice President, CCS Fundraising
Adele Hixon-Day, Head of Advancement, National Museum of African American History and Culture
