2017 Federal Tax and Its Impact on Fundraising

The tax bill approved by Congress and signed into law by President Trump in late 2017 affected fundraising and the nonprofit sector in countless ways. And we’re still waiting to see how the tax bill will affect giving throughout 2018 and beyond.

The Charitable Act

AFP’s current key legislative priority is passage of the Charitable Act, which would allow taxpayers, regardless of whether they itemize their taxes or not, to take a deduction for their giving. This bill is a reintroduction of the Universal Giving Pandemic Response and Recovery Act from 2021.
