AFP KY, Greater Louisville Chapter Event: A Professional Sports Team Here! Why Louisville? Why Now?

For almost a decade in the late sixties to early seventies, Louisville enjoyed a major league team, the Kentucky Colonels. A member of the American Basketball Association (ABA), the team won the most games and had the highest winning percentage of any franchise in the league’s history. Despite their talent and supportive fan base, the Colonels were not chosen to join the NBA during the merger with the ABA. In 1976, the team folded and since then Louisville has not been home to a top-tier professional sports franchise. Until last year!

The National Women’s Soccer League’s Racing Louisville FC made Louisville, KY its home in 2021! The community couldn’t be happier and is embracing the sport, the team, the youth academy, and the investment the league is making in our local economy. Did you ever wonder why Louisville? Why now?
