I want to take a moment to highlight something new that AFP has never done before until now: On April 20 and 21, we will host our first ever AFP Spotlight Sessions: Health Care virtual event.

We’ve never held an event focused on just one subsector, but we felt like it was the time to experiment and bring AFP health care fundraisers together. After all, more than 20% of our membership works in health care, and with the COVID-19 pandemic, health care organizations have been in the spotlight more than ever. As of this morning, the registrations have been very strong, and I encourage you to join us if you are interested in this space.

With our widely diverse membership featuring organizations focusing on a myriad of causes, AFP can offer a unique value proposition to subsector-focused events. For example, we can provide health care organizations with new perspectives on their missions and operations by discussing best practices from other subsectors that can be applied to health care fundraising. We’ll also discuss the important roles that ethics and IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access) have in development, cultivation and stewardship for health care organizations.

We also have a terrific keynote speaker in Marc Harrison, M.D., president and CEO of Intermountain Healthcare. An international thought leader on transformation and innovation, Dr. Harrison ranks third on Modern Healthcare’s 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare in 2020. He’s made equity and inclusion fundamental values at Intermountain and has called on the health care community to address racism as a public health crisis.

If you’re in health care fundraising, this event has so much to offer, and I encourage you to register at our Spotlight Sessions: Health Care webpage.

If you’re not, maybe this event isn’t for you, but be on the lookout for similar subsector-focused events in the future. We are always looking to innovate, try out different programs and look for new ways to serve you better.

If you have thoughts on events you’d like to see AFP offer, drop me a line at Mike.Geiger@afpglobal.org or on Twitter at @AFPMikeGeiger.
