AFP ON, Golden Horseshoe Chapter Event: Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training for Fundraising Professionals

In this workshop, we will delve into the importance of Indigenous cultural awareness for fundraising professionals. We will explore the history and legacy of residential schools and Indian hospitals, as well as the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Treaties, and Aboriginal rights. The focus will be on understanding the unique challenges faced by Indigenous communities and how we can engage with them in a respectful and meaningful way. We will also discuss best practices in working with Indigenous elders and knowledge keepers, recognizing their invaluable contributions to their communities.

Key Learnings

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the history and legacy of residential schools and Indian hospitals, and their impact on Indigenous communities.
