New Federal Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) Changes – Negative Impact on Charitable Donations

Speaker, Les Ross will discuss how the new AMT rules affect charitable giving, give some examples of their impact with case studies, and outline some of the lobbying/advocacy efforts by the charitable sector and tax community. Les will also discuss our donation format and how donors making flow through share donations will be negatively impacted with the implementation on January 1, 2024.

About the Speaker:

At PearTree Canada, Les Ross works with donors, advisors and charities to facilitate greater charitable giving by enabling donors to significantly reduce their after-tax cost of donation, using the flow through share donation format pioneered by PearTree in 2007. Les holds a Commerce degree from Queen’s University and an MBA from York University, is an accredited Personal Financial Planner, a Chartered Investment Manager, a Fellow of both the Canadian Securities Institute and the Institute of Canadian Bankers and holds the Master Financial Advisor – Philanthropy designation.

Les and his family have resided in Oakville for many years with diverse community involvement. He is a Paul Harris Award recipient from Oakville Rotary and serves on the Board of Directors at the Oakville Community Foundation. Les is also a member of the St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation Strategic Philanthropy Advisory Task Force.
