National Philanthropy Day® Spotlight: Léandre Gaucher
Léandre Gaucher, 2021 Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy, AFP Quebec Chapter
Léandre Gaucher is a remarkable kid who overcomes challenges like no other, and he was recognized by the AFP Quebec Chapter as the 2021 Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy. When he was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2019, his life changed forever. Now 12 years old, Léandre is dedicated to giving back to The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation, where he received specialized care he never imagined he would need.
Léandre’s commitment to making a difference is already having a huge impact on the lives of children with cancer. To raise funds, he organizes community events with his mom’s support, such as an annual swim-a-thon, which is in its third year. A passionate violinist who began playing seriously from a young age, he has also held a charity concert with fellow musicians. He also found creative ways to engage his peers during the pandemic, hosting an online guessing jar game and a virtual concert and he raised money through a read-a-thon. Léandre has made appearances on radio and television to share his story, while participating in The Caring for Kids Radiothon, a flagship event of The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation. He also participated in many other radio interviews to promote his events.
As he grows into a fun-loving pre-teen, Léandre is becoming increasingly involved in philanthropy. Since his diagnosis, he has raised over $25,000 to help young patients at The Montreal Children’s Hospital get back on their feet. There is no doubt that Léandre will continue to inspire us!
