Although her physical presence on this earth may be gone, the energy, ferocity and tenacity that was Simone Joyaux is something that will never leave us. Those of you whom she touched, whether by friendship, teaching, or words, have been forever changed.
Simone dedicated her life’s work to tackling injustice and inequity. In a fitting tribute, AFP has created the Simone Joyaux Fund to further the values that she so passionately believed in. The Simone Joyaux Fund will provide scholarships to Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Two-Spirit (LGBTQ2S) Canadian fundraisers.
In the words of Simone’s life partner, Tom Ahern:
“Simone was raised on this motto: “Different is better.” And she was very much into two things. Learning fundraising’s body of knowledge was one. So, a scholarship fund, being about education, is perfect. And multilingualism was the other. As her French dad, Georges, urged (in a loud, jolly voice and thick accent): “Get out of your linguistic ghetto.” So, a scholarship fund for Canadian fundraisers, which is multilingual and the only western country among the top 20 “most diverse” is perfect.”

More About the Simone Joyaux Fund
As AFP shared on May 3rd, Simone Joyaux, ACFRE, Adv Dip, FAFP, Certificate in Philanthropic Psychology, passed away suddenly. The outpouring of support from the fundraising community has been heartfelt and overwhelming. She touched so many lives with her passion and willingness to step outside the box.
The AFP Foundations for Philanthropy have created a fund in Simone’s memory to provide scholarships to BIPOC and LGBTQ2S Canadian fundraising professionals. An essential part of Simone’s identity was her French heritage, and she always had an affinity for her Canadian colleagues.
If you would like to make a gift to honour Simone’s legacy, you can do so through either the Canadian or US Foundations for Philanthropy. Both will honour the intent to provide scholarships to Canadian fundraisers.

Simone Joyaux nous a quittés, mais son énergie, sa férocité et sa ténacité ne nous quitteront jamais. Ceux et celles d’entre vous qu’elle a touchés, par son amitié, par l’enseignement ou par ses mots, ont été changés à jamais.
Simone a consacré sa vie à lutter contre l’injustice et les inégalités. En guise d’hommage, l’AFP a créé le Fonds Simone Joyaux afin de promouvoir les valeurs qu’elle défendait avec passion. Le Fonds Simone Joyaux offrira des bourses d’études aux personnes noires, autochtones et de couleur ainsi qu’aux personnes lesbiennes, gaies, bisexuelles, transgenres, allosexuelles et bispirituelles (LGBTQ2S) canadiennes qui œuvrent en collecte de fonds.
Comme l’a dit le partenaire de vie de Simone, Tom Ahern :
Simone a grandi avec cette devise : « La différence, c’est mieux ». Elle se passionnait pour deux choses en particulier. Tout connaître sur la collecte de fonds en est une. Alors un fonds de bourses d’études axé sur l’éducation est tout simplement parfait. La deuxième chose était le multiculturalisme. Son père français, Georges, lui répétait (d’une voix puissante et joviale, marquée d’un fort accent) « Sors de ton ghetto linguistique ». Alors un fonds de bourses d’études pour les professionnels en collecte de fonds du Canada, un pays multilingue et seul pays occidental parmi les 20 pays « les plus diversifiés », est tout simplement parfait.

Comme l’AFP l’a annoncé le 3 mai, Simone Joyaux, ACFRE, Adv Dip, FAFP, titulaire d’un certificat en psychologie philanthropique, est décédée le weekend dernier. Nous avons reçu un nombre impressionnant de témoignages chaleureux de la part de la communauté des professionnels en philanthropie. Simone a touché tant de vies par sa passion et par sa volonté de sortir des sentiers battus.
Les Fondations pour la philanthropie de l’AFP ont créé un fonds à la mémoire de Simone afin d’offrir des bourses d’études aux professionnels en collecte de fonds noirs, autochtones, de couleur ou LGBTQ2S du Canada. Une partie essentielle de l’identité de Simone était son héritage français, et elle a toujours eu beaucoup d’affection pour ses collègues canadiens, le Canada étant un pays bilingue.
Si vous souhaitez faire un don pour honorer l’héritage de Simone, vous pouvez le faire par l’entremise de la Fondation canadienne ou de la Fondation américaine pour la philanthropie de l’AFP.
