The AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course was developed with a foundation from the Essentials of Fundraising Program and the First Course and is composed of seven modules that have been designed by experienced fundraising professionals to meet the real-world needs and challenges nonprofit organizations face every day. This 16-hour program includes case studies and projects for groups and individuals, making the learning experience both substantive and enjoyable. The AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course offers a complete overview of the development function, featuring the most current information and techniques. This intensive program will provide an overview of skills, techniques, and program components for individuals with 0 to 4 years of fundraising experience.

  • Module 2: Developing an Integrated Fundraising Program
  • Module 3: Marketing for Ongoing Success
  • Module 4: Building & Sustaining Relationships
  • Module 5: Securing the Gift
  • Module 6: Volunteers – Partners in Fundraising

Registration for the AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising course includes access to the digital participant manual (read only, not downloadable, or printable and access available for 6 months). Printed participant manuals for the AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course are available during registration for an additional $50.00 USD.

Cherian Koshy, CFRE is the vice president of product strategy at Kindsight, a nonprofit tech solution that helps organizations assess and analyze donor data.

A recognized leader in the social impact sector, he brings over 25 years of experience in revolutionizing fundraising and organizational strategies. Koshy founded NonprofitOS, a groundbreaking AI-driven platform that was acquired by iWave (now known as Kindsight), in 2023. He has extensive experience in the philanthropic sector, having previously served as the Vice President of Development for Merit America, the Director of Development for Des Moines Performing Arts and the Development Director of the National Speech & Debate Association.

Koshy blends technology with traditional methods to help nonprofits and charities champion causes. As a sought-after international keynote speaker, he energizes and empowers organizations with practical strategies for sustainable growth, applying data-driven insights to transform their operations and help them achieve sustained success.

Nowshad (Shad) Ali, CFRE, is the President and CEO of On Purpose Leadership a company whose mission is to help people, communities and organizations in the effective pursuit and attainment of purpose without compromise of core values. Shad has several certifications in various human behavior dynamics sciences and has over 25 years’ experience working on high performance, leadership, growth and advancement of individuals, teams and organizations.

Shad has extensive experience working with both corporate and social impact organizations in the areas of Organization Growth and Development; Individual and Team Excellence and Hiring and Retaining Top Talent.  In both professional and volunteer capacities, he has served many of Canada’s top charities and corporations.  Shad has served AFP on the International Research Council, as well as on Professional Advancement and Chapter Growth endeavors. He has chaired the AFP Canada Foundation for Philanthropy Research Committee for several years including the launch of the What Canadian Donors Want Study and the Research Grants Program. Shad remains a highly rated AFP Congress speaker and has spoken at several international and National conferences. He is also a certified AFP Certified Facilitator.
