Supporting Future Fundraising Leaders

This initiative equips individuals new to the fundraising profession to step into leadership roles, raises awareness among youth about service, community, and impact, prepares college students for careers in fundraising, and educates senior professionals on the importance of mentoring. Through this work, we aim to:

Assess the key reasons behind attrition among young professionals within the fundraising profession and/or AFP.

Identify the supports and conditions emerging leaders need to succeed in the profession.

Develop resources that promote retention and prepare the next generation of leaders.

Equip senior professionals and organizational leadership with tools to better support and retain emerging professionals.

Join a Mentorship Program

Through the AFP/Blackbaud Emerging Leader Mentor Program, emerging professionals are matched with experienced mentors to grow their skills, expand their knowledge, and build inclusive, future-ready leadership in fundraising.

The AFP/Alford Group Women’s Impact Initiative (WII) Mentor Program also connects women fundraisers with inspiring mentors to set goals, strengthen leadership, and help shape a more equitable profession.

Both programs open for applications each fall.
