Mark and Brenda Moore: Outstanding Philanthropists in D.C.
Throughout Black History Month 2019, AFP will be recognizing donors, volunteers and civic leaders of color who have been honored by local AFP chapters. Today we recognize the AFP Washington, D.C. Metro Area Chapter’s 2018 Outstanding Philanthropists: Mark and Brenda Moore.
Including his time spent as chief operating officer and owner of Segovia Inc., a company that provided global IP services to the Department of Defense, Mark Moore has over 30 years of operational and financial experience. Mark has helped to raise $2 billion in public and private capital during his career.
Brenda, a former nurse, along with her husband Mark, established the Mark & Brenda Moore Family Foundation in 2010, the center of their philanthropic activity. Passionate philanthropists, they want to make a difference in the lives of others, including healthcare, education, the arts and Christian Evangelism. The foundation has contributed $7.5 million to a wide variety of causes including Mount Vernon Hospital’s Mark and Brenda Moore Patient Tower and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Mark and Brenda believe exposure to the arts is an essential part of a balanced life and have strongly supported the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York, the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC, and other cultural institutions. Just some of the other organizations they support through board service and leadership include the Kennedy Centers’ National Symphony Orchestra, Mount Vernon Hospital Quality Board, The Apollo Theater and the John Leland Center for Theological Studies.
