Mike's Monday Message: Voting for the Future of AFP

Voting

The power of community lies in the voices that guide it.

As an AFP member, you have the opportunity to set the direction of our profession, by voting for the 2025 AFP Global Board of Directors.

After an open call for nominations, which was distributed broadly to the AFP membership through my Monday message, our daily newsletter, social media, volunteers’ networks, and other channels, the AFP Global Nominating Committee thoroughly reviewed submissions and put together the slate you will be voting on.

AFP’s board plays a crucial role in determining the priorities for our organization, ensuring that we remain responsive to the needs of our members. For example, the 2025 board will be putting into action our new strategic plan, which goes into effect this coming January. Though we have laid out goals and objectives for the next several years, how these goals are achieved, as well as how we adapt to changing circumstances, will depend, in part, on our volunteer leaders.

That is why it is crucial that our membership has the opportunity to approve our slate of candidates.

All AFP members who are eligible to vote should have received an email on September 3. This email includes the login information you will need, as well as the link to view information about each candidate, and the ballot that you will use to vote. Your options are to vote 1) for, 2) against, or 3) to abstain.

Voting is open until Tuesday, September 17 at 12 p.m. ET.

So, I encourage you to take a few moments this week to cast your vote.

Your participation is the next step in a process designed to bring together leaders with a wide range of experiences, backgrounds, and skills that represent the full breadth of our community.

Our goal throughout this process is to lift up potential leaders who not only understand the intricacies of fundraising but also have the vision to build a more inclusive and forward-thinking profession.

Our future board, alongside our staff and other volunteers, will be committed to making our sector more equitable and to finding innovative ways to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.

Here’s to shaping the future — together.
