Ethics Awareness Month: Toolkit
Every October, AFP celebrates Ethics Awareness Month because ethics makes philanthropy and fundraising possible. Without ethics, giving doesn’t happen. Fundraising doesn’t happen. Change and impact don’t happen.
Ethics makes it all possible, and THAT’S worth celebrating.
The Ethics Awareness Month theme for 2025 is "Ethical Fundraising in a Changing World". This theme recognizes both the recent updates to our Code of Ethics and the new challenges emerging in our profession. As technology such as AI advances and societal expectations evolve, fundraisers are navigating complex questions about accountability, transparency, and trust.
The toolkit below includes resources that you can use to help spread the word about Ethics Awareness Month, including real-world sample ethical dilemmas, a sample press release template, and graphics to share on social media. Questions can be sent to [email protected].

Ethical Dilemmas
Everyday decisions in fundraising can present ethical challenges—whether it’s how we handle donor information, navigate conflicts of interest, or ensure transparency in our work. The AFP Ethics Committee has developed real-world case studies to help you apply the AFP Code of Ethical Standards to common situations fundraisers face.
